A Brief History of the Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah
Ahlus Sunnah School, formerly known as the Islamic Day School, was founded in 1984 with the objective of educating Pre-School through Kindergarten Muslim children in an Islamic environment. Islam was in its earliest stages of development in the area at that time. Although, there was the humble beginning, the Imam Ahmed Burhani and the Muslims had vision and future plans.
So nine (9) years later the School began its move toward a full time Muslim Islamic School. The Muslims went into a five (5) year contract and leased part of a National Guard Armory in the next city over. The Muslims used this building to develop the Muslim School from Kindergarten to the 4th grade in the 1992-1993 school years. Since that time, Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah has evolved into a full-time school from Nursery through the 12th Grade. Ahlus Sunnah has had seventeen graduating classes as of June, 2011.
The objective of Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah is to impart sound religious and secular knowledge, as well as instill and cultivate self-discipline and high moral character. Inshaa Allah, these goals can be achieved through the teachings of the Qur’aan, the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) and the way of our Righteous Predecessors. The school strives to provide a safe, wholesome, stimulating environment away from negative influences that will adversely affect the learning process.
Our students have come from a variety of areas within Northern New Jersey and New York. Paterson, Clifton, Elizabeth, Brooklyn, Poughkeepsie just to name a few. Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah has awarded families who had no ability to pay and would not have been able to attend the school otherwise partial and full scholarships to attend the school. These funds have generally been raised and the condition of the scholarship is that the recipient’s parents would volunteer time in the school.

Such fundraisers include advertising journals, mail solicitations, dinners as well as other Islamic Centers generously offering their space for the school to have fundraisers in their facilities.
As mentioned earlier, Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah is in need of facility upgrades to better allow us to maintain the school. In 2012, Ahlus Sunnah built and opened up a library for our students to utilize. Our library contains both Islamic and secular books for our students to use for research and general reading. Insha Allah, the library will be of benefit to all that use it. The upgrades that are needed for the school are as follows:
Computer Lab Upgrade
Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah needs to upgrade its Computer Labs for the students. For the 2012-2013 school year, our students will begin to take courses online. In order to achieve maximum effectiveness for the program now and in the future, the school will need to purchase more software, computers and monitors. The current estimated cost for this project is $30,000.
Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah has students that come from many cities in Northern New Jersey, with more interested in coming if the school was able to provide transportation for them. Ahlus Sunnah wants to put a transportation program in place, starting with the purchase of a school van. The cost of this endeavor would be about $15,000.
Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah has been in operation since 1984. By the grace
and mercy of Allah, the school has been able to remain operational through some very trying and difficult financial situations. In order for Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah to remain operational, we must continue to rely on Allah for guidance and direction as well as to have all of our actions be in accordance to the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SWS).
